about

Selected Praise:

'A unique, brilliant debut…we should celebrate LoneLady as the arrival of a fresh and invigorating voice whose talent transcends time and space and influence' (NME)

'Austere, anxious minimalism and explosive shyness’ (Guardian)

'Riffs to make the young Peter Buck (REM) green with envy' (Watercooler)

Back in the Autumn of 2009, newly signed to Warp, instead of going into a commercial recording studio, I instead wanted to record my debut album on location, in the landscape of my home, Manchester. I've always loved raw, industrial spaces, and have spent my adult life living, working and dreaming in these urban wildernesses. And so it came to pass that Nerve Up was recorded in a damp, freezing ‘Satanic’ mill in Miles Platting, a then run-down area of East Manchester, in a room purpose-built using breezeblocks and salvaged scrap. A crazy endeavour - but a story, and a recording - which only increases in magic over the years. - LL
